Medicine through Time learning session
What can documents at The London Archives tell us about how London has responded to public health crises in the past?
Focussing on a variety of epidemics affecting London and beyond, students will closely examine documents such as charts, maps, guidance pamphlets, health returns, films and oral histories to build a picture of the ways in which the government has reacted to outbreaks of contagious disease. By examining strategies such as prevention, isolation and education, they will consider how the documents which have been created and collected in the past, go on to inform not just how we understand these histories, but how we might choose to select and preserve archival materials for the future.
