Second World War learning session

Key Stage 2

What was it like living in London during the Second World War?

It’s time for your class to put on their 'history detective' hats! In this interactive session, students will investigate the different initiatives launched by the British Government to protect its civilians during the war and decide which one they think was the most effective at keeping Londoners safe. Students will be taking on a number of investigations and challenges as a whole class and in small groups, using original archival material to find out more about evacuation, rationing, air-raid shelters and gas masks.

Curriculum links

  • A study of an aspect or theme in British history that extends pupils’ chronological knowledge beyond 1066
  • A local history study
