To celebrate Tower Bridge's birthday, join us at the City of London’s Heritage Gallery to journey through 130 years of history.

Since it’s Royal opening on 30 June 1894, Tower Bridge has been an enduring symbol of London all around the world. In this mini exhibition, dive into the story of Tower Bridge. From its humble beginnings in the imagination of City Architect Sir Horace Jones, to becoming one of London’s most visited heritage attractions.

Explore behind-the-scenes stories unearthed amongst previously unseen Tower Bridge archives currently being catalogued and conserved.

Highlights include:

  • How and why the Tower Bridge was built
  • The splendour of the Royal opening on the 30 June 1894
  • Tower Bridge’s role in defending London from enemy attack during World War One
