Archives accreditation
The London Archives is an Accredited Archive Service.
One of the first archive services to be awarded Archive Service Accreditation in 2014 (under our former name of London Metropolitan Archives), we reapplied for Accreditation status in 2020 and once again were awarded this prestigious status. Our accredited status was reviewed and confirmed in 2024.
Archive Service Accreditation is the UK standard for archive services. Achieving accredited status demonstrates that we are meeting the best-practice standards for archives and ensuring the long-term collection, preservation and accessibility of the archive heritage we hold.
The London Archives is the largest local government archive repository in the United Kingdom and holds the remarkable archive of a remarkable city. It is funded and managed by the City of London Corporation.
In reviewing our most recent full application, the Accreditation assessors noted that, ‘The London Archives’ (then known as London Metropolitan Archives) mission statement declares; 'We aim to provide a world class service aspiring to the highest standards that is open and engaging, innovative, inclusive, secure and sustainable.' It has demonstrated in this application how it is achieving this.’
